From Calgary to the Classroom: WOW Bakery’s New Industry Partnership

WOW Bakery has always believed that growth is about more than opening new locations or creating new products. It’s also about sharing knowledge, developing people, and building meaningful connections within the industry.

On September 17, 2026, WOW Bakery began a new industry-academic partnership with Hyejeon University in South Korea, which offers a specialized Baking and Pastry Arts program.

The partnership is designed to connect classroom learning with real-world industry experience, creating opportunities to share knowledge about bakery operations, production, customer service, teamwork, and workplace skills.

Sharing What We’ve Learned in Calgary

WOW Bakery was founded in Calgary in 2016, and over the years we’ve learned that running a bakery takes much more than technical baking skills.

Consistency, teamwork, communication, customer experience, quality control, and understanding how a bakery operates day to day are all essential parts of the industry.

As part of the partnership, Andrew Kim, CEO of WOW Holdings, met with Baking and Pastry Arts students at Hyejeon University to share what WOW Bakery has learned from building and operating a bakery business in Calgary.

The session covered topics such as workplace expectations, production and quality management, teamwork, customer service, and career development.

For students, it was an opportunity to hear directly from an industry professional and gain a better understanding of how bakery businesses operate beyond the classroom.

Connecting Education and Industry

Through this partnership, WOW Bakery and Hyejeon University plan to explore future opportunities for industry education, mentoring, workplace learning, and professional development.

The goal is not simply to teach technical skills, but to help future baking professionals understand the broader skills needed to succeed in a changing and increasingly global industry.
