Introducing WOW Bakery’s New Dessert: Chewy Butter Mochi

A small dessert that first began as part of our Mother’s Day collection

Chewy Butter Mochi wasn’t originally planned as a permanent menu item at WOW Bakery.

Earlier this year, we first introduced it as part of our Mother’s Day Gift Box collection — a small seasonal dessert we thought customers might enjoy alongside our other treats. But it quickly became one of the most memorable items in the box.

“Will the butter mochi come back?”
“Can I buy this separately?”
“I can’t stop thinking about that texture.”

Long after Mother's Day had passed, we continued receiving questions about it both in-store and through messages. Thanks to so many warm responses from our customers, Chewy Butter Mochi has officially become part of the WOW Bakery menu.

So, What Is Chewy Butter Mochi?

Chewy Butter Mochi is a baked dessert inspired by the soft, elastic textures often found in Asian-style bakery desserts.

Made with glutinous rice flour and butter, it sits somewhere between a cake and mochi, with lightly crisp edges and a soft centre.

Recently, these kinds of baked desserts have been gaining popularity in cafés and bakeries, especially among people looking for something comforting, unique, and not overly sweet or heavy.

At WOW Bakery, we wanted to keep the signature texture while creating a version that was lighter and easier to enjoy.

Not too sweet.
Not too heavy.
Just enough to leave you wanting another bite.

The WOW Bakery Style of Butter Mochi

While testing different versions of Chewy Butter Mochi, the most important thing for us was balance.

Desserts like this can easily become too dense or overly buttery, so we focused on creating a texture that felt softer, lighter, and more approachable.

Our Chewy Butter Mochi is:

• lightly crisp around the edges

• soft in the centre

• buttery, but not too heavy

• naturally paired with coffee or tea

It’s the kind of dessert that quietly grows on you after the first bite.

Our Favourite Way to Enjoy It

We personally love it slightly warmed up.

Heating it in the microwave for about 10–15 seconds makes the centre even softer while bringing back a delicate crispness around the edges.

Paired with coffee or tea, it becomes an especially cosy dessert to enjoy during a quiet break in the day.
